There was a hearing on the Senate Bill 354 recently by the Senate Criminal Justice Committee on whether they should allowed concealed handguns licensed (CHL) to be carried into college buildings. There are a lot of debates over this matter of issue.
Land Commissioner Jerry Patterson, a state senator, for the CHL says, "It's about the nursing student that goes to class at weird hours at UTMB in Galveston and has to walk back to a parking lot in darkness, or the lady with a protective order against a former lover or spouse," while I agree with that, but they can go ask the campus police to escort them to their car. Even if they have to go ask the police every night or a few times a week then they should. If they don’t feel like doing that then they should change their schedule so they will feel safer.
Some say this bill might escalate violent crimes and I think it will since there have been a few incidents where a student decided to go crazy with the gun at some colleges. If the bill were to pass, then there might be a lot more incidents like the one I just mention just because people nowadays seem to be dumber and always be doing something stupid without thinking what would happen.
